I love paintings, it's my hobby since i was a kid. But all i ever do is just sketch in pencil or pen. usually on a piece of white paper, school notebooks or even the text books themselves when i'm bored of the teacher's teachings.. hahahhaa.. sorry, I'm not a smart student back then but I didn't cause any havoc in class. :) i just do my stuff...
This post is dedicated to myself in 2009, I have managed to take the first step in digital painting. It all started out when I saw Calvin's drawing tablet and I went and asked him more about it. Seems that the tablet is not too expensive, only around RM3xx and the thing is, it has pen pressure. Meaning, the lines can go from light to dark depending on the pressure you applied on the tablet itself. This is what I always wanted. except it's a bit odd to sketch on a pad and looking up at the monitor as oppose to sketcn on the paper to be able to see the actual thing itself.
Well, turns out a lot of pros does this and if budget permits, you can get an even higher range of tablet which has monitors and you can draw and paint onto them directly... I won't go that far yet because I haven't hone my skills enough...
I've since sketched and painted quite a bit with the tablet and lately a lot on my iPhone using Sketchbook mobile. A very very nice painting application. I've joined sites, forums, follow blog posts and bought quite a bit of magazines associated with paintings to learn more. I have not learn paintings before all my life so this is quite new to me.
Let's see, I started out testing the tablet I bought a while ago at April. After a few pencil sketches, I went on and experimented with paintings. Managed to tried my first painting at around June.
Actually, this piece alone gave me the confidence I needed to continue to paint and not just sketch. I was too afraid to paint initially, my weakness being selection of colors as I'm somewhat colorblind in a few selected colors.. I followed the colors closely from the Transformers Movie poster I saved from the internet. With colors problem out of the way, I focus on painting. Well, i guess I just painted away... slowly.. surely. It took me a while though, but I was satisfied.. it might not be good to you.. hahaha, but I'm satisfied for my beginner's work.
I went on and painted this as well... Also from transformers. I painted for 1 month i remember, each and everyday, full time on weekends... non stop. And it is my best work for 2009... you can click on the image for a larger version...
well, the thing is, this has been a great year for me in terms of painting. I have devoted much time in this area and will continue to do so in 2010. I have managed to submit a few of my art pieces to a guy who compiles them into mobile art application and here's the screen shot of my art work with the pages and my nick name and also the blog address. :)
Those who have Apple's iTunes software and interested in this, you may get the app via this link. It's now on the 3rd volume and.. best of all, it's completely free. :) But you will need either an iPod touch or iPhone to view it.
I consider this a small small achievement for myself in terms of painting and looking forward to participate in all the upcoming releases of the application. I hope to improve my painting skills in the year 2010.
I also would like to thank my friends and some strangers for supporting my artworks in either Facebook, the blog here, deviant art, flickr groups and some forum that I've posted. Thank you all for the support and it meant a lot to me. :)
