My small small achivements... 2009

Today is 1st of Jan 2010, this is a little post dedicated for my own reflection of 2009 what what it has meant to me in terms of my hobby...

I love paintings, it's my hobby since i was a kid. But all i ever do is just sketch in pencil or pen. usually on a piece of white paper, school notebooks or even the text books themselves when i'm bored of the teacher's teachings.. hahahhaa.. sorry, I'm not a smart student back then but I didn't cause any havoc in class. :) i just do my stuff...

This post is dedicated to myself in 2009, I have managed to take the first step in digital painting. It all started out when I saw Calvin's drawing tablet and I went and asked him more about it. Seems that the tablet is not too expensive, only around RM3xx and the thing is, it has pen pressure. Meaning, the lines can go from light to dark depending on the pressure you applied on the tablet itself. This is what I always wanted. except it's a bit odd to sketch on a pad and looking up at the monitor as oppose to sketcn on the paper to be able to see the actual thing itself.

Well, turns out a lot of pros does this and if budget permits, you can get an even higher range of tablet which has monitors and you can draw and paint onto them directly... I won't go that far yet because I haven't hone my skills enough...

I've since sketched and painted quite a bit with the tablet and lately a lot on my iPhone using Sketchbook mobile. A very very nice painting application. I've joined sites, forums, follow blog posts and bought quite a bit of magazines associated with paintings to learn more. I have not learn paintings before all my life so this is quite new to me.
Let's see, I started out testing the tablet I bought a while ago at April. After a few pencil sketches, I went on and experimented with paintings. Managed to tried my first painting at around June.

Actually, this piece alone gave me the confidence I needed to continue to paint and not just sketch. I was too afraid to paint initially, my weakness being selection of colors as I'm somewhat colorblind in a few selected colors.. I followed the colors closely from the Transformers Movie poster I saved from the internet. With colors problem out of the way, I focus on painting. Well, i guess I just painted away... slowly.. surely. It took me a while though, but I was satisfied.. it might not be good to you.. hahaha, but I'm satisfied for my beginner's work.

I went on and painted this as well... Also from transformers. I painted for 1 month i remember, each and everyday, full time on weekends... non stop. And it is my best work for 2009... you can click on the image for a larger version...
well, the thing is, this has been a great year for me in terms of painting. I have devoted much time in this area and will continue to do so in 2010. I have managed to submit a few of my art pieces to a guy who compiles them into mobile art application and here's the screen shot of my art work with the pages and my nick name and also the blog address. :)

Those who have Apple's iTunes software and interested in this, you may get the app via this link. It's now on the 3rd volume and.. best of all, it's completely free. :) But you will need either an iPod touch or iPhone to view it.

I consider this a small small achievement for myself in terms of painting and looking forward to participate in all the upcoming releases of the application. I hope to improve my painting skills in the year 2010.

I also would like to thank my friends and some strangers for supporting my artworks in either Facebook, the blog here, deviant art, flickr groups and some forum that I've posted. Thank you all for the support and it meant a lot to me. :)

The Dark Knight live show @ QBMall @ 26th Dec 2009

Witnessed the live show of Dark Knight (Batman) at Queensbay mall last Saturday with Julian. I was at QB mall when i saw the posters promoting the event. Thought I'd give it a look since I have nothing much to do at this holiday. Brought out my camera n headed out.

As you can see from the concourse area, when u look up, the Batman signal was projecting by the spotlight and move around the area.

Before the actual show starts, they let a few participants, 1 kid accompanied by their parent to play a few rounds of game. The game is pretty simple, they have big sized cardboard of either Batman or the Joker with some parts of their clothes or body removed as pieces of puzzle. All they have to do is be the first one to complete the puzzle out of the pieces on the table.

The participant below finished first.... well.... a bit too fast n rushed that they made a mistake...

Can you spot the mistake that they made from the photo above? hahahahhaa.. it was quite funny, click on the photo for a larger version if you need to spot the mistake.

I will put up some photos and brief descriptions of what happened during the live show and you may scroll down to see the story...

Next come the live show, it starts out with voice over playing at the background telling the tale of Bruce Wayne and his initial journey and how he managed to conquer his fear and become the Dark Knight or Batman.

I forgot the actual story but I will watch "Batman Begins" once again for this, i loved that movie compared to the rest. Basically it saids Bruce went on a journey to discover himself and actually ended up being trained by a tribe in ninjitsu (art of ninja) by Ra's al Ghul his mentor who later became his enemy.

A few bat performance by some ladies.

The story then continued as a reporter from GCTV (i think its Gotham City Television) interviews a fake Batman. Fake Batman said he supported what Batman stands for, justice, peace, bla bla bla.. hahhaha.. Actually, to be honest, if they didn't say he's the fake Batman... i would have thought he's the real one. Come on, this is a free live show, that costume is good enough to me as a real Batman. With fake Batman looking this good, I'm actually looking forward to the real deal.

The scene then continued on showing villains dancing around after robbing bank... not bad.. their dance moves are actually pretty entertaining.

All the villains then gave way to the master villains himself... who's this dude in purple suit?

Taking off the mask and unveiling his true identity....

The Joker! then had his men cornered and defeated the fake Batman, and choke him.. mocking him in the process... But a voice then shouts out.. "LET HIM GO!".... and lights were directed to the top of the stage, waay high up at the 3rd floor where a clock tower was situated along with a Batman sign.

It was the Batman! He grapples down from that roof top, slowly... not to slow.. LOL. it was quite funny when he landed, he's taking his time to unclip himself from the safety harness while Joker and the rest waited.. hahahhahaa.. oh well, sorry.. it's funny to us adults but for kids i'm sure it is believable. :)

The Dark Knight himself... looking pretty good I must say, don't you agree?

Said something before fighting Joker's men.

Which he failed when 3 of them ganged up on him... keeping him down while the Joker has his say...

The Joker enjoying the moment as he managed to keep Batman onhold, showing his joy.. ah.. full of achievements are we?

Batman later somehow managed to summon all his strength and broke free of the goons' hold and fight each of them off before defeating Joker himself. Not so surprising here isn't it? hahahahhaa...

The victory stance, Dark Knight then said out some lines from the movie Dark Knight (which is also my favorite batman movie of all time) before ending the show...

The casts then lines up and gave the audience a bow... thanks for the great show! well, check the schedule, for those who missed this and would like to check it out you may do so before the schedule ends. To me, to be honest, this live show is really well put up. It is worth the watch even though you're just a minor fan of Batman. Give it a try, I didn't wait for the Meet and Greet session though, not sure what is it. Perhaps its meeting up with the casts and taking photos with them. :)

Batman and Justice League mini exhibition @ QB mall @ 26th Dec 2009

There's currently a mini exhibition over at Queensbay mall 2nd floor near concourse area. featuring Batman and Justice League characters dressed up in mannequins.

Some looked okay, but there are a few who looked out of proportion. hmmm, but it could have been just a simple exhibition for the festive seasons. To attract crowds and kids who hopefully will nag their parents to buy some of the associated toys or items from these characters.

How many of the characters below that you can identify? Honestly, I can only a few... i'm out of these cartoons. hahahhaha.. i only know those classic ones, Batman, the flash, wonder woman.

batarangs

finally, the Batpod. Anyone who watched the latest Dark Knight movie this year will find this familiar. It's the best Batman movie ever... tickets beaten Titanic as the highest grossing movie... :)

Stay tuned for the live show of Batman: the Dark Knight show that I've managed to capture.

Queens foodmarket @ QB mall

The newly opened Queens food market at the top level of Queensbay mall.

I ordered the tau foo fa [豆腐花], RM3.20 expensive than outside but its quite big bowl. Never thought I'll feel full eating these. :S but its nice. I will order it again next round.

this is my main course, guess what is this? At first glance, it looked like a bowl of curry mee. Well, if you think so... its not wrong, it is 90% curry mee, just that the mee is ramen. Japanese mee instead of the usual yellow mee we have outside. The price is cheap, at RM3.90 per bowl in a moderate portion, the taste... well, if you like food which is not too salty, not too spicy well this is for you. for me it's a bit bland not that i'm a person who likes salty or spicy food (well, spicy yes..haha) it is so so only. you may give it a try since it's cheap.

One interesting note, when I looked up at the ceiling, I can see a few fans, lights and.. security camera, a few of them. Hmmm, I wonder what are they for? First time that I saw a security surveillance camera in a food court.

Finally, we've got 1 more place to eat out next time when we visit Queensbay mall.. no more of the usual as there are numerous stalls here selling lots and lots of Chinese cuisines.

Anniversary 2009

When i heard that my dad took leave and will be coming back to Penang to be with us during his wedding anniversary with my mum, I immediately thought of an idea to bring them out and eat something nice.

Since they insisted on having a vegetarian diet on this date, I convinced them to just take some ice cream for the occasion, which we did. Haagen Dazs. One of my favourite ice cream brand. It's pricey, but nice. simple as that.

Looked around the menu, they have a bunch of new items to try out... but in the end.. not wanted to be stingy when it comes to occasion like this, I opted for the buffet thing with a chocolate dipping in the center.

Comes with fruits, biscuits, mini cakes and i think 16 mini scoops of pre-selected ice creams.
Chocolate dipping heated by a candle below the tray...
Overall, we had a great time although it was quite brief. took some photos, most of the shots were quite shaky. I dun have my auto focus 50mm with me, so gotta make do with my kit. Not a fan of built in flash, so didn't use it.

The ice cream were not that nice actually, i think they purposely pre-selected the flavors that normally are harder to sell out. low demand, so they included in this set which if you count the number of items together for the price, it's consider cheap. at RM6x something. A normal scoop of the ice cream usually costs around RM12++. Oh well, next time i'll let them try out those nicer flavours. :) we can go more often then...

This is the first time that I've actually celebrated with them... funny isn't it? hahaha, being a light bulb.. but we dun mind. at least among the 3 of us. small but heart warming event.

Here's to many many more years of happiness to come :)

What about u guys? have u ever celebrated your parent's anniversary? why not try it on the next one.. and share with me your experience. :)

Christmas gift exchange 2009

It's almost Christmas now... in fact just another 5 more days at time of this writing. At this company, we have an annual event where we would exchange little gifts (by little i mean within a specific price range, this year RM15 set by Weng Hong as he purchased the first gift even before an actual invitation was sent out... talked about kiasu-ness, LOL). we would gather around during or after work and draw numbers and exchange.

Doris decided to chip in last minute with her unopened bottle of Milk Plus body lotion from "The Face Shop" RM18 if I'm not mistaken... hahahha, all the ladies aimed for this last minute gift, no wrappings but Ishtar was kind enough to donate her ribbon.

I'm not sure if they did anything or not, jie jie got the gift as she wished... hey, if i remembered correctly, last year she got her Twitty bird pillow too.. just as she wished... hmmmm....

Somehow last year's celebration was much more grand than this.... either we organized it a little bit late this year cos everyone was in their long leave... or..lesser participation this year..

Check out this link for the celebration last year...

Admin and her "master"...

Can anyone tell what number is this prize?? guess it.... its number... seven... a lot of us thought it was number 9.. LOL.. Ishtar... the bar should be darken up to make it distinctive... it looked like a square with a hole...

Ah Pang peaking his number...

Ishtar drawing number first or second...

hahahahha, Yean Seang didn't join in for the gift exchange but volunteered to hold WengHong's gift... notice "his" badge?

Actually I think people are much more looking forward to the food.. KFC...

I received Weng Hong's gift... tissue holder shaped like a Mahjong piece and a small cellphone pouch.. too bad my iphone can't fit... Ah bok got my gift... a polar bear! Actually i like the bear that i bought, cute isn't it?

Well, an early Merry Christmas to you all here first!
